Summer Palace unroll the landscape once
Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill create a composition much larger than the famous corridor. Choose an entry, a hill effort and a final shore before the garden starts folding back over your own footsteps.
Set the garden sequence before the gate
The panels can be reversed, but they should not be repeatedly shuffled. Current access to courtyards and separately charged sites still needs checking.
Choose the first threshold
Use East Palace Gate for a formal approach, North Palace Gate for a steeper hill-side logic or another gate only when it serves the planned exit.
Read palace space
Give administrative and residential courtyards attention before the lake view pulls the route outward.
Price the climb
Decide whether Longevity Hill and separately managed buildings are central, optional or omitted for mobility and weather.
Finish along Kunming Lake
Use the chosen shore, bridge or confirmed boat to complete the composition without retracing the entire corridor.
General gate, combined ticket, separate interiors
Official guidance distinguishes park admission from selected scenic buildings and lists different seasonal hours. Do not buy the most inclusive option automatically if the route cannot realistically use it.
A passport-ready ticket check
- Online: verify the current official account, release window and support for the passport and phone number you have.
- On site: official Beijing guidance describes staffed purchase with a valid passport when online use is not suitable.
- Coverage: check whether the hill buildings or courtyards you want are included.
- Monday effect: some separately charged interiors may close even while the outer park remains open.
Choose effort before completeness
Palace to lake
Enter through a formal eastern approach, read the court sequence, use the Long Corridor and finish with one lake-side stretch.
Hill to water
Begin near the northern hill route, cross selected elevated spaces and descend toward the lake, adjusting for steps and heat.
Lake-edge edit
Prioritize accessible gates, flat shoreline and rest points; omit the hill rather than treating it as a failed requirement.
One composition only
In heat, rain or poor air, choose palace courtyards or one shore and exit early with the garden still legible.
Alternate enclosure and open water
Enter at the planned gate
Confirm passport and ticket handling, then orient the final exit before attention is captured by the first courtyard.
Palace and corridor
Read the changing relationship between built edge, hill and lake rather than treating the corridor as one long photograph.
Stop completely
Use shade, food and water before choosing the hill. Heat and crowds change the value of vertical effort.
Lake finish
Walk the selected shore or use a confirmed boat, then leave through the gate chosen at the beginning.

Do I need a combined ticket?
Only if the route has time and energy for the included spaces. General admission plus selected separate entry can be more realistic for a lake-focused day.
Can I buy with a foreign passport?
Official Beijing guidance supports passport-based booking and staffed purchase. Check the current channel and bring the original document.
Can this pair with 798?
They are on opposite sides of the city and both reward unhurried time. Keep them on separate days.
What if boats are closed?
Use the planned walking shore and gate-to-gate route. A boat should shorten or enrich the composition, never hold the itinerary together.
