Lower Manhattan combines the working Financial District, the 9/11 Memorial and the harbor. These are distinct experiences: leave a quiet interval after the memorial, and decide whether an island visit is important before filling the rest of the day.

A practical visit plan
Start around Battery Park and orient yourself toward the harbor. Visit the memorial respectfully, then choose either a booked museum or a walk through the older streets. A Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island excursion needs its own ticket and security time; the Staten Island Ferry does not land at either island.
What to check before leaving
Use the official NPS ferry information to identify the authorized departure and ticket. Do not buy from street sellers assuming every harbor cruise includes island access. Check subway weekend changes and keep an indoor alternative for poor weather.
