Porta Nuova and Porta Susa are both useful but lead into different ends of the centre. The Egyptian Museum and Royal Museums have separate controlled entrances around different civic spaces. Choose the arrival by the first door, and do not assume an arcade-facing façade is the visitor entrance.
Know what the chosen line leaves out.
Both collections can occupy most of a day once security, orientation and fatigue are counted. Selecting one as the main argument gives up famous rooms elsewhere, but allows the squares, lunch and urban sequence to remain more than corridors between queues.
Turin & Piedmont has four layers to align.
Central Turin is a measured city of arcades, royal spaces and large collections, but Piedmont beyond it quickly becomes a branch-transport problem. The Egyptian Museum and Royal Museums need attention choices; Venaria and the Sacra di San Michele need separate gateways; the Langhe, Alba and Asti require a sober agreement between rail, road and appointments.

Three nights gives Turin two independent city days and one selected regional branch. Four or five nights supports both a royal or abbey excursion and a Langhe town day without treating an arriving train, a tasting appointment and a museum ticket as one continuous itinerary.
TRANSFER
Porta Nuova and Porta Susa serve different sides of central Turin and onward networks. Urban trams and buses complete city access, while Venaria, the Sacra and vineyard country each use a different regional connection. Confirm the precise station, stop or booked driver rather than assuming “near Turin” means a short urban transfer.
SEASON
Arcades provide useful rain and summer protection, but museum demand and special exhibitions still change entry pressure. Fog, winter conditions, harvest events, heat and weekend road traffic affect Piedmont excursions; rural opening and transport patterns must be checked for the actual day.
LOWER-RISK DAY
When a regional branch or reservation fails, retain a complete Turin day built from one major collection, royal public spaces and an arcade walk. Do not replace a cancelled palace, mountain abbey or vineyard transfer with an unverified taxi chain.
Arrive, cross one gate, use one layer, then protect the return.
