Golden Gate & the Presidio

The Golden Gate is a landscape of viewpoints, trails and changing fog. Choose a specific side of the bridge and a realistic walking distance, with the Presidio providing a substantial park visit even when the bridge is partly hidden.

A practical visit plan

Start at an open Presidio visitor area, walk to one viewpoint and decide whether a bridge crossing fits wind and energy. Use a confirmed bus connection for the return. Leave Marin headlands for a separate plan if you do not have suitable transport.

What to check before leaving

Bridge pedestrian and bicycle access rules vary by side and time. Fog can arrive quickly; bring layers and stay on signed paths. Do not stop a vehicle on bridge approaches or assume every coastal trail is step-free.
