Embarcadero & Alcatraz

The waterfront connects ferry infrastructure, public promenades and Alcatraz departures. An island ticket needs advance attention; ordinary sightseeing cruises can circle the island without landing.

A practical visit plan

Begin at your confirmed departure pier if visiting Alcatraz. Allow time for the boat, island paths and historical interpretation before returning to the mainland. Keep the Ferry Building or a short Embarcadero walk as the flexible part of the day.

What to check before leaving

Use the NPS link to find the authorized ticket provider. Pier numbers matter and are separated by substantial walking. Bay wind, hills and accessibility arrangements should be checked before assuming the island is a casual extension.
