A full-day outer-reef crossing from Port of Airlie, Daydream or Hamilton Island to Hardy Reef and a managed reef pontoon.
Best for travellers who want an offshore reef day and can tolerate a long vessel passage. It is a full-day commitment; allow a mainland/island buffer and do not plan a flight connection immediately after return.
If swimming is not suitable, the current product lists an underwater observatory and semi-submarine. Ask about access, mobility and motion tolerance before booking.
If you are very sea-sensitive, want more beach time, or the offshore forecast is poor, choose an operator-confirmed Whitsunday island/inner-reef outing or a land day rather than forcing the crossing.
The operator says light rain does not usually stop the tour; the voyage and activities continue unless conditions are deemed unsafe. Check its notice and the BOM coastal waters forecast. If cancelled, use a sheltered base-day and apply the booking’s current change/refund terms.

Cruise Whitsundays lists its full-day Great Barrier Reef Adventure from Port of Airlie, Daydream or Hamilton Island to a permanently moored pontoon at Hardy Reef, 39 nautical miles from shore. Its published FAQ estimates around three hours each way from Airlie and two from Hamilton Island, depending on sea and weather, with about four hours at Hardy Reef. Its day-trip page uses generic wording for the pontoon; a current Hamilton Island experience listing calls the landing Heart Pontoon. Match the pontoon name and schedule to your live booking. This is an open-water crossing, not a sheltered Whitsunday-island snorkel.

Swimming mismatch
Outer-reef water is not a pool. Use the observatory/semi-submarine or remain aboard if you cannot enter safely.

Rain itself may not cancel, but unsafe wind/swell can change or stop the trip. Operator judgement and current notices govern.

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority prohibits damaging, collecting or taking coral without a permit. Never stand on or touch coral, chase wildlife, feed animals or leave rubbish; use buoyancy control and follow the skipper, guide and site-specific rules.

Which pontoon does the day trip visit?
The Cruise Whitsundays day-trip page confirms a Hardy Reef pontoon but does not name it. Hamilton Island’s current experience listing names Heart Pontoon; verify the pontoon and schedule on the live booking.
Can a non-swimmer go?
The operator lists an underwater observatory and semi-submarine, so entering the water is not required to take part in those activities. Confirm mobility and medical suitability with the operator.
